Clarity Human Services - June 2025 Updates

Smarter, Smoother, and More Supportive: Your June 2025 Clarity Update

Faster client check-ins, improved data import processes, easier signature collection, and more — Clarity’s getting a handful of care-enhancing updates and upgrades in June 2025.

Innovation is one of our favorite words at Bitfocus (so much so that we etched it into our core values), and we’re thrilled to continue to innovate on behalf of our partner communities.

Dig into this month’s updates, and give us a shout if you’d like to discuss any of them further!

Client Check-In Improvements

The Upgrade
Users can now check clients in from a client’s profile screen instead of going to a referral record to check them in.

The Impact
Checking a client in is one way to keep their referral active or keep them active on the community queue. With this change, it’s easier for staff to check clients in and ensure nobody falls through the cracks.

Client-Check-In

Signature Fields

The Upgrade
System administrators can create a new “Client Signature” core field and “Signature” field type so that users can add signature fields to any customizable screen in Clarity.

The Impact
Need to collect client signatures within Clarity — or insert other relevant signatures (e.g., a case manager or supervisor)? Now, your team can add those signatures during the data entry process, saving time and keeping all the key info together.

Data Import Validations and Warnings

The Upgrade
Most data validation issues no longer block imports. Instead, they are logged as warnings or rejected records — only an error with the file structure will cause validation to stop. Also, results are paginated so that users can see the full warning and error list, along with a code that describes the issue and a reference to which record is causing it.

The Impact
Troubleshooting issues can be a pain. These changes aim to remove as much of that burden as possible, allowing users who are trying to import a file into Clarity to quickly isolate and address the root cause of any hurdles, improving system-wide data integrity.

Matching to Appropriate Placement (MAP) Assessment

The Upgrade
The MAP assessment is now available as a core assessment within Clarity.

The Impact
Does your community use MAP? If so — or if you work it into your intake processes in the future — you’ll no longer have to manually program it into your system. The MAP is an evidence-based assessment tool that evaluates the needs and vulnerabilities of people who are experiencing homelessness. It’s comprehensive, high-validity, and focused on maintaining equity.

Inventory + Referral Process

The Upgrade
Unavailable units will be hidden from the inventory queue. Also, the Automatic Offline Status functionality has been updated to take into account future pending occupancies.

The Impact
Together, these changes will clarify which units are actually available when they refer a client to a vacancy. This won’t just make users’ lives easier, it’ll ensure clients are efficiently connected to the right housing programs.

Data Analysis

The Upgrade
New integer values have been added to a handful of HUD fields in Looker to align with HUD picklist values. Also, we have added a new field, “UID,” to the Encampments View in the Project Descriptor Model and the Outreach Model.

The Impact
These additions will increase consistency between Looker and Clarity and make it easier to filter for these fields in Looker. Easier filtering and more powerful data analysis will improve on-the-ground effectiveness and also equip your community to satisfy funding requirements — and win additional funding.

Federally Recognized Tribes

The Upgrade
We’ve updated the Federally Recognized Tribe core field to align with the 12/11/2024 Federal Register. You can see the full list of changes here.

The Impact
By staying consistent with the latest names, your community can enhance communication and maintain racial and cultural equity in your homelessness response systems.

Continued Interface Improvements

The Upgrade
Client- and program-level files, as well as client privacy management, are now available in Clarity’s new user interface. We have also added notifications for client alerts, ROI warnings, and search page messages to client profiles and search pages. Records can be viewed by hovering over the notification instead of clicking.

(Not using the latest and greatest version of Clarity yet? Here’s everything you need to know about making the switch!)

The Impact
Do more in fewer clicks: That’s a core driving force of our innovations at Bitfocus. These changes make Clarity more intuitive for users and allow you to accomplish more for your community — one saved click at a time.
